Planning a wedding is exciting—but it can also be a little overwhelming. As a wedding photographer based on Long Island, I’ve had the privilege of capturing love stories at vineyards, beaches, ballrooms, and everywhere in between. One of the most common questions I get from couples is:

"What does a wedding day typically look like from your perspective?"

A solid timeline not only helps your day flow smoothly, but it also ensures we capture every special moment—from the tearful vows to the wild dance floor moves.

Remember, every wedding is planned differently (depending on travel time, church, venue, etc.) But here’s a peek at what a wedding day timeline often looks like from behind my lens:

💄 1. Getting Ready (Approx. 1.5–2 Hours)

Example: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

This is when I arrive and start capturing the details—your dress, shoes, rings, stationery, and those candid moments with your closest crew. I usually bounce between the bride’s and groom’s getting ready spots (or split coverage if there’s a second shooter).

Pro tip: Try to have the room tidy (or ask a bridesmaid to help) and near a window—natural light is a game changer.

📸 2. First Look & Portraits (Approx. 1.5–2 Hours)

Example: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM

If you’re doing a first look, this is when the magic happens. It’s a private moment for the two of you, and it allows us to knock out many portraits early—meaning more time at cocktail hour later!

After the first look, we typically roll right into couple portraits, wedding party shots and family portraits.

💍 3. Ceremony

Example: 5:30 PM – 6:00 PM

(have guests arrive at 5:00pm)

Whether it’s a beachside vow exchange in Montauk or a traditional church ceremony in Garden City, I capture wide shots, guest reactions, and all the big moments (like that first kiss!).

Pro tip: Check when the sun sets—especially for outdoor ceremonies.

🥂 4. Cocktail Hour

Example: 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM

This is your time to relax, mingle, and enjoy those bacon-wrapped scallops.

I’ll also float around capturing candids, details, and your guests enjoying the vibe.

🎉 5. Reception

Example: 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM

From your grand entrance to your first dance, speeches, cake cutting, and dance floor chaos—this is when the energy really kicks in. I like to sneak you out for 10–15 minutes during golden hour for a few romantic evening portraits.
