Your wedding day will fly by in a beautiful blur of love, laughter, and celebration. Your photos are what will keep those memories alive forever. As a wedding photographer, I want your gallery to be filled with moments that truly reflect your story. That’s why a little preparation can go a long way.

Here are some helpful tips to make sure you feel confident, relaxed, and photo-ready on your big day.

1. Plan a Realistic Timeline (with Buffer Time!)

One of the biggest factors in stress-free wedding photos is time. Work with your photographer (hi, that’s me!) and planner to create a schedule that includes extra cushion around key moments. Think 15-20 minutes of buffer between hair/makeup, getting dressed, and portraits.

More time = more relaxed photos

2. Consider a First Look

A first look (that private moment when you see each other before the ceremony) can be incredibly emotional and meaningful. It also allows us to capture those reactions in a calm setting, and get most of your portraits done before the whirlwind of the ceremony and reception begins.

Still want the traditional aisle moment? That works too! Just know your timeline might need a bit more flexibility.

3. Have Your Details Ready

Gather the small details (rings, invitations, shoes, heirlooms, perfume, etc.) in a box or tray so I can photograph them first thing when I arrive. It saves time and helps tell the full story of your day.

Pro tip: Have your florist deliver a few loose blooms with your bouquet. They’re perfect for styling your flat lays!

4. Tidy Up the Getting Ready Space

Cluttered rooms can sneak into your photos. Before I arrive, do a quick tidy-up: stash bags, water bottles, and snacks to one corner. A clean space makes your getting ready shots look polished and timeless.

Bonus tip: Choose a room with good natural light. Big windows are our best friend.

5. Trust the Process

You don’t need to be a pro in front of the camera. That’s my job. I’ll guide you through prompts and poses that feel natural so your photos don’t look stiff or overly posed.

Just focus on each other and the reason you’re getting married . The joy will show!

6. Make a Family Photo List

Group portraits can get hectic if we don’t have a plan. Before the wedding, I’ll ask for a list of family groupings you want photographed (and designate a helpful friend or coordinator to round people up).

This keeps things organized and quick, so everyone gets back to the party sooner!

7. Be Present...Really Present

The best photos happen when you’re genuinely in the moment. Don’t stress the small stuff. If something runs a few minutes late, it’s okay. Your joy, your love, your connection: that’s what we’re here to capture!

Final Thought: You’ve Got This

Wedding photography is about more than just pretty pictures. It’s about preserving the feeling of the day. With a little preparation and trust, we’ll create something beautiful together that you’ll look back on for decades.
