Some love stories take a little more planning, a little more patience, and a whole lot of commitment and Matt and Eliza’s is one of those stories. After meeting in college and navigating a long-distance relationship, these two are officially beginning their next chapter as fiancés!
Matt surprised Eliza with a proposal at her parents’ home in Huntington, and just one day later, we met up for their engagement session at Sagg Harbor Beach. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate such an exciting weekend than with a sunset session by the water.
From College Sweethearts to Fiancés
Matt and Eliza first met in college, and over the years, their relationship has grown through the challenges and joys of being a long distance couple. Anyone who has experienced long distance knows that it takes intentionality, communication, and a whole lot of love to make it work.
So when Matt decided it was time to propose, he chose a place that was especially meaningful, Eliza’s parents’ home in Huntington. Just one day later, they were in front of my camera celebrating their engagement!
I love when an engagement session happens so close to the proposal because everything still feels brand new. The excitement, the smiles, the “we’re really getting married!” feeling. It’s all right there.
A Beach Session at Sagg Harbor
For their engagement photos, we headed to Sagg Harbor Beach and spent some time walking along the shoreline, soaking in the views, and enjoying this exciting season of their relationship.
The beach was the perfect setting for them. There was something so effortless about being by the water together, and it gave us plenty of opportunities for a mix of romantic portraits and candid moments.
My favorite engagement sessions are the ones that feel less like a photoshoot and more like a date. I want my couples to be able to relax, laugh, move around, and simply enjoy being together and Matt and Eliza made that so easy.
Celebrating Their Next Chapter
There is something extra special about photographing couples who have already been through so much together. Matt and Eliza have built their relationship across the miles, and now they get to look forward to building a life in the same place.
From meeting in college, to navigating long distance, to a surprise proposal in Huntington, and then celebrating their engagement at Sagg Harbor Beach just 24 hours later. This weekend was truly one to remember.
