There’s something so special about photographing a proposal in the fall. The changing leaves, warm tones, and beautiful light make autumn one of my favorite seasons for capturing these once-in-a-lifetime moments.
Ryan and Katie’s proposal at Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay was the perfect example, although you definitely wouldn’t have guessed it was autumn by the temperature!
It was an unseasonably hot day, but that didn’t stop Ryan from planning the sweetest surprise for Katie. With the beautiful grounds of Planting Fields surrounding them, Ryan popped the question and Katie’s reaction was absolutely priceless.
After the big moment, we spent some time exploring the property and capturing the two of them together. I love that proposals don’t have to end with the question and the ring. Once the surprise is over, it’s such a fun opportunity to slow down, celebrate, and document this brand-new chapter together.
Planting Fields was the perfect backdrop for their session, with its historic architecture, gardens, trees, and natural scenery giving us plenty of variety. Even though the leaves were starting to bring that classic autumn feeling, the warm weather had us feeling more like summer, definitely one of those Long Island fall days you don’t forget!
Ryan and Katie, congratulations on your engagement! I’m so happy I got to be there to capture such an exciting moment in your story. Here’s to everything that comes next.
If you’re planning a surprise proposal on Long Island, I’d love to help you capture the moment without taking away from the surprise. From planning where to stand and how to coordinate the timing to documenting the celebration afterward, I’m here to make sure you can be fully present while knowing your memories are being captured.
