Every once in a while, a session comes along that pushes me out of my comfort zone in the best possible way. When my friend Jessie reached out about her engagement session, I knew it was going to be something special and a little different from what I usually do.
Jessie and I actually met years ago while working for a school portrait company. We bonded over our mutual not-so-passionate feelings about that job and have stayed in touch ever since. Fast forward a few years, and now she’s engaged to her long-time boyfriend, Tom, after he proposed at the Renaissance Festival (which could not be more perfectly them).
When Jessie told me she wanted a dark and moody theme for their engagement photos, I was both excited and nervous. My editing style has always leaned toward colorful and true-to-life tones, the kind that make photos feel bright and timeless. But this session gave me a chance to play, experiment, and see things from a different perspective.
We shot right in time for Halloween, which made the theme feel even more fitting. The dramatic light, the eerie fall atmosphere, and Jessie’s creative vision all came together to create something truly magical. It was such a fun challenge stepping outside my usual style and embracing the moody vibe and I loved every minute of it.
Jessie and Tom, thank you for trusting me to bring your vision to life (and for reminding me that trying something new can lead to the most rewarding results).
In the End…
An engagement session is an investment in comfort, connection, and confidence. It helps turn your wedding photography experience into something seamless and joyful from start to finish and gives you memories that go beyond just your wedding day.
If you’re on the fence about booking one, trust me...it’s totally worth it.
