There are proposals that are sweet. There are proposals that are emotional. And then there are proposals like this one. The kind that completely fills the beach with excitement, laughter, and the kind of joy you can physically feel in the air.
This past weekend, I had the absolute honor of photographing Evan & Zoe’s proposal at Jones Beach State Park, and from the second Ryan got down on one knee, it became one of those moments I know I’ll never forget.
What made this proposal even more meaningful was the full circle connection behind it. Back in the winter, my associate photographer photographed Stephanie, Zoe’s twin sister’s, proposal. So getting to now capture Zoe’s turn felt incredibly special for our team. Being trusted to document such huge moments for not one, but both sisters is something I truly don’t take lightly.
Evan & Zoe originally met through acapella, and honestly, their proposal felt exactly like the best kind of love song: loud, emotional, joyful, and impossible not to smile at.
The second Ryan dropped to one knee, Zoe completely lit up. And when I say lit up… I mean completely. I have never seen a reaction so full of pure excitement. She was jumping up and down, screaming, laughing, and immediately telling every single person walking by that they had just gotten engaged. Her happiness was so genuine and so contagious that strangers on the beach were celebrating right alongside them.
Those are the moments I love most when photographing proposals. The completely unscripted reactions. The kind you could never pose if you tried. The tears, the shaking hands, the laughter, the overwhelming excitement… it’s all real, and it’s what makes these memories so meaningful to look back on years later.
Jones Beach gave us the perfect backdrop for such an emotional evening. Between the ocean breeze, the golden light, and Zoe’s infectious energy, the entire session felt magical from beginning to end.
Evan & Zoe, thank you for allowing me to be part of such an unforgettable chapter in your story. Your joy was truly one of a kind, and I already know this is a proposal I’ll be talking about for a very long time.
